Avid Audio was founded in 1984 as Digidrums by bandmates Peter Gotcher and Evan Brooks. The company initially raised capital by making EPROM chips for drum machines, but would eventually become known for its revolutionary software, Pro Tools. The software launched in 1991 and has since become the industry standard for recording studios worldwide, earning Digidesign a Grammy in 2001 and an Oscar for their contribution to audio post-production for film. In 2011, the company officially became Avid Audio.

Avid has been at the forefront of the digital revolution for over three decades and offers a range of products and solutions for post-production, content creation, and audio/video production. Avid's video editing software, Media Composer, and professional audio production tools, Pro Tools and Sibelius have earned a reputation for their high quality and versatility.
