Product Information

MOTU's 8Pre is a 16–in/12–out USB 2.0 audio interface built for recording and playback at up to 24–bit/96 kHz. The core is eight combo XLR/TRS preamps with per–channel 48V phantom power, 20 dB pad, and front–panel trim control. Each input runs through a discrete preamp stage with five–segment metering, giving tracking and live work the visibility needed to catch levels before they clip.

Two ADAT lightpipe ports add eight channels of optical I/O at up to 96 kHz, meaning the 8Pre works as a standalone optical expander for any ADAT–equipped interface or mixer without a computer attached. The back panel has stereo TRS main outs, while the front offers a dedicated headphone output, sample–accurate 5–pin MIDI I/O, and SMPTE time–code sync via analogue connections. CueMix software handles mixing across all 16 inputs on macOS and Windows.
