The Epiphone 1959 Les Paul Standard is a mahogany body guitar built to replicate the original 1959 Gibson design that players like Peter Green and Kirk Hammett made legendary. The core difference between the '59 and its successor lies in the neck profile: a Rounded Medium C that sits slightly thicker in the hand than the SlimTaper of the 1960 model. This reissue, developed with Gibson Custom, captures that neck feel alongside the one-piece mahogany construction with long neck tenon that defines the original's stability and sustain.
The body is solid mahogany with a carved maple cap topped by AAA flamed maple veneer, finished in Vintage Gloss for an authentically aged appearance. Electronics consist of two USA Gibson Custombucker humbuckers with Alnico 3 magnets, wired through CTS potentiometers, Black Beauty paper-in-oil capacitors, and Switchcraft toggle and output jack. The rosewood fingerboard runs 628.65 mm in scale with mother-of-pearl trapezoid inlays matching original dimensions and placement. Hardware includes an ABR-1 Tune-O-Matic bridge, historical aluminium tailpiece, and Epiphone Deluxe Single Ring Keystone tuners in nickel.
The Dark Burst finish sits between lighter and darker burst options, offering visual depth without veering too glossy or flat. Guitarists after vintage tone–whether recording at home or gigging–will find the thicker neck and hand-wired circuit delivers the response that made these guitars collectable. The brown hardshell case with pink plush interior and Gibson Custom graphics provides solid protection for transport and storage.
