An asymmetrical capsule with a shifted acoustical axis lets the DPA 6388 sit off to the side of the mouth while still pointing its maximum sensitivity at it. That design, paired with an angled boom, removes the need to park a mic in front of the talent's face. This beige directional headset microphone from DPA Microphones terminates in a mini-jack and uses a low-profile capsule housing, the smallest form factor that still holds a supercardioid pattern.
Inside is DPA's CORE+ capsule, a pressure-gradient condenser design tuned for close-distance voice pickup. It stays clean and low in distortion at both low and high SPLs, so speech remains intelligible in loud rooms. Off-axis response is highly linear, meaning stage noise, reflections and crosstalk are attenuated without obvious colouration. The result is strong gain-before-feedback and consistent tone even when capsule placement is slightly off. The boom can be switched from left to right to suit any performer.
Visual impact matters in theatre, broadcast, corporate and house of worship work, and the 6388 is built to disappear. The boom has a non-reflective PVD finish, the clips are transparent, and the headset frame comes in several colours to match different skin tones. This beige version suits lighter complexions, while brown is available for others. Comfort and adjustability are covered, making it a practical choice for presenters and performers who need clear voice capture without a visible mic.
