Product Information

Vic Firth's Balter Basics BBB5 mallets are medium–weight keyboard strikers designed for vibraphone, marimba, and general percussion work. Built with birch handles and wrapped in blue cord, these mallets deliver articulate tone across a broad dynamic range. The Balter Basics series prioritises straightforward construction and reliable performance without unnecessary frills, making them accessible to players developing their technique.

The BBB5 uses a cord–wound head that softens attack while maintaining clarity through the fundamental pitch. Medium weight suits most vibraphone applications and lighter marimba passages where control matters more than projection. Birch construction provides natural flex and reasonable durability for regular use. The blue cord wrap offers visual identification in a mixed mallet collection and contributes to the head's tonal characteristics, reducing harsh frequencies without deadening the strike.

These mallets work well for players transitioning from hard mallets to softer yarn or cord options, or for anyone building a grab–and–go percussion kit. The straightforward design means less time fussing with equipment and more time developing touch and dynamics across keyboard and pitched percussion instruments.
