Tanglewood TB4-CE Super Folk Acoustic Electric Guitar w/ Cutaway (Smokestack Satin)

The Tanglewood TB4–CE is a Super Folk Cutaway acoustic–electric built on the principle that upper–fret access shouldn't compromise tonal integrity. Tanglewood's Blackbird range represents the company's commitment to balancing playability with acoustic character, delivering an instrument that translates equally well in the bedroom or onstage. The mahogany construction across top, back, and sides establishes a sonic foundation centred on warm midrange and articulate highs, while the Smokestack Satin finish reveals rather than obscures the wood's natural grain.

All three major components—top, back, and sides—employ mahogany, a choice that shapes the instrument's resonant character through consistent wood properties and damping. The engineered–wood fingerboard provides durability and fretboard stability, critical for instruments subject to temperature and humidity variance across touring schedules. Electronics centre on the Tanglewood Premium Plus EQ system, a preamp designed to allow real–time tone sculpting without requiring external outboard gear. The satin lacquer finish strikes a practical middle ground: protective yet tactile, with enough reflection to showcase grain definition without the fragility of high–gloss polyurethane.

This configuration suits musicians who gig acoustically but need fret access for melodic passages beyond the twelfth fret, and those running direct–to–PA in small–to–medium venues where onboard EQ adjustment becomes essential mid–set. Studio recordists value the balanced top–end presence and midrange body that requires minimal corrective EQ in post. The cutaway design makes fingerstyle technique more accessible across the full range, while the mahogany tonal palette works as well fingerpicked as strummed.
