Product Information
For over fifty years, the SSL Stereo Bus Compressor has defined the sound of finished records across every genre, earning its place as one of the most trusted dynamics processors in professional studios worldwide. The Bus Comp Classic brings that legendary circuit back in a dedicated 1U rackmount format, faithfully recreating the sound and workflow of the original while expanding its creative range with modern enhancements. High-performance THAT 2181 VCAs sit at the heart of the signal path, delivering the same response and character that made the original an industry standard. Variable VCA Drive lets engineers dial from SuperAnalogue™ transparency through to 4K console character, with access to up to 10% THD for deliberate harmonic saturation.
Precision stepped controls for Ratio, Attack, Release, and sidechain high-pass filtering ensure absolute repeatability across sessions and recall. The integrated sidechain HPF prevents low-frequency pumping without external processing, while genuine stereo external sidechain inputs open up creative ducking and frequency-dependent compression techniques. SSL's Auto Release mode adapts dynamically to programme material, providing natural compression that responds to the music rather than fixed time constants. Expanded ratio and time constant options extend beyond the original's range, giving engineers finer control over compression character. The 1U chassis maintains the focused, no-nonsense layout that made the original so quick to dial in under pressure.
