Product Information
Hand-built in a one-time run of only 500 sets, this 50th Anniversary Custom Shop release returns to the earliest specifications of Seymour Duncan's most aggressive humbucker design. The Duncan Distortion emerged in the late '70s when hard rock and metal players demanded hotter, harder-hitting output than vintage pickups could provide. This exclusive zebra set pairs the original high-output ceramic bridge humbucker with the Seymourizer II neck pickup, delivering the tight, percussive low end and searing upper midrange that defined the tone of Randy Rhoads, George Lynch, and Adam Jones.
The bridge pickup uses a large ceramic magnet and hot coil windings to drive amps harder while retaining note clarity and attack. Early-spec construction includes butyrate bobbins, long-leg baseplates, and maple spacers – details that honour the original builds before production-line adjustments like vacuum wax-potting bobbins arrived. Each set is lightly aged for vintage character and includes replica 'Seymourized' model stickers that match the earliest collector pieces. Bottom plates arrive hand-signed by Seymour W. Duncan and Custom Shop lead Maricela 'MJ' Juarez, with exclusive 50th Anniversary packaging.
The Seymourizer II neck pickup balances the bridge's aggression with fluid sustain under high gain and articulate response when played clean. This pairing preserves the classic sonic formula that has remained unchanged since production began, delivering the raw, immediate attack that shaped decades of heavy music while maintaining enough clarity to cut through dense mixes and overdriven stages.
