The Remo Emperor® SMT™ Coated bass drumhead is a 22” pre-muffled design engineered to balance controlled mid–range and high frequencies with commanding low-end presence. Built by Remo’s drum head division, this model represents a deliberate move away from open resonance toward a more defined, articulate low-frequency response. Sub Muffl® Technology distinguishes this head from standard alternatives, offering players a tonal foundation suited to jazz ensembles and contemporary applications where clarity matters as much as depth.

Construction centres on a dual-ply configuration: 7-mil and 5-mil coated film layers working in concert to suppress unwanted ringing whilst preserving attack and sustain. The pre-muffled design reduces the need for external muting techniques, meaning drummers achieve near-final tone straight from the bearing edges. Subsonic low frequencies receive reinforcement, adding punch and definition to kick patterns without requiring additional tuning compensation. The broad tuning spectrum allows practitioners to dial in anything from tight, controlled resonance to fuller, more expressive ring depending on lug tension and shell depth.
