The McCarty 594 represents PRS's distillation of vintage guitar DNA and contemporary playability. Born from Paul Reed Smith's mentorship with Ted McCarty in the late 1980s, this bolt–on solid–body design synthesises classic tonal character with modern ergonomics. The Fire Red Wrap finish sits atop a maple top and mahogany body, whilst the slightly thicker back enhances sustain and resonance–core priorities in the McCarty lineage since its 1994 debut.
Construction centres on a bound 22–fret Pattern Vintage neck paired with a zinc two–piece bridge and newly updated lightweight tuning machines featuring PRS's Wing buttons. The 58/15 LT pickups have undergone the TCI (tuned capacitance and inductance) process, yielding articulate humbucking and sweet single–coil voicings via dual volume and push–pull tone controls. The lighter tuner buttons subtract less energy from vibrating strings, allowing the guitar to ring longer and sustain at more musical frequencies–a design principle PRS refined dating back to 1982.
Sessions requiring tonal versatility and intonational stability across the full neck benefit from the McCarty 594's design. Touring musicians favour its playability and durability; session players value its ability to shift seamlessly between humbucker–driven warmth and single–coil clarity without switching instruments.
