Product Information

The Custom 24 is the instrument that defined PRS's sonic identity when it debuted at Winter NAMM in 1985, and it remains the brand's flagship solid-body electric. This bolt-on design sits at the Core level of PRS's range–the pinnacle of design, materials, and execution–and has earned its place on tour rigs and studio floors worldwide. The Yellow Tiger top variant arrives with a hard case, marking it as a serious instrument for players who demand both aesthetic presence and established tonal pedigree.

Construction centres on a bolt-on body with a figured maple top, paired with PRS's proprietary Gen III tremolo system and a set of 85/15 pickups hand-voiced by Paul Reed Smith himself. The 85/15s deliver extended high and low frequency response with remarkable clarity across the mid-range–a characteristic signature of PRS's approach to pickup design. A five-way blade switch, master volume, and tone control provide straightforward signal routing. The 2024 update includes redesigned tuning machines with lighter-weight Wing buttons, engineered to reduce mass at the headstock and allow longer sustain and more resonant vibration transfer through the strings.

Players tracking in project studios, gigging regionally, or working towards touring schedules find the Custom 24 adaptable across genres and demanding enough to grow with developing technique. The instrument excels at articulate lead work, balanced cleans, and sustained overdriven tones without sacrificing note definition. Its established reputation and secondary market resilience make it a practical choice for musicians viewing the instrument as both tool and long-term investment.
