Product Information

Neumann's digital signal processing core transforms the KH 80 DSP Active Studio Monitor (PAIR) into a reference-class near-field system with room correction capabilities typically found only in far larger installations. This ultra-compact bi-amplified white monitor delivers reference-level accuracy in project studios, broadcast vans, and untreated rooms where conventional passive designs struggle. The onboard DSP engine runs Neumann's Mathematically Modelled Dispersion (MMD) waveguide algorithms, directing every frequency with calculated precision to maintain stereo imaging across a wide listening area. Automatic alignment via the optional MA 1 microphone measures room response and applies corrective EQ, bringing broadcast-grade monitoring to spaces without acoustic treatment.

Each cabinet houses an in-house modelled composite sandwich cone bass driver with Extremely Linear Force Factor (ELFF) technology paired with an alloy fabric dome tweeter, both powered by separate low-distortion amplifiers with extensive thermal limiting. The KH 80 DSP achieves 108.8 dB SPL maximum output at 1 metre in half space, with bass extension down to 53 Hz (–6 dB). Frequency response holds ±0.7 dB linearity between 100 Hz and 10 kHz, while the 24-bit delta-sigma DAC processes audio at 48 kHz with just 2 ms latency in linear phase mode. The rear panel provides electronically balanced XLR and 6.3 mm jack inputs with 14k ohm impedance, a four-position acoustical control switch for quick desk/freestanding adjustments, and Ethernet connectivity for full control via Neumann's MA 1 software. Flow-optimised bass reflex ports reduce compression at high output levels, while the one-piece polycarbonate composite cabinet minimises edge diffraction for smoother off-axis response.

The network-controllable architecture supports user-adjustable delay from 0 to 70 ms in 0.1 ms increments, enabling precise time alignment in multi-driver systems or AV sync correction. Input gain scales across four calibration points from +24 dBu to +4 dBu, matching the monitor to mixing consoles, audio interfaces, and broadcast routing. Volume adjusts from 0 dB to full mute in 0.1 dB steps via software, with all parameters stored in onboard memory for instant recall. The universal switched-mode power supply operates on 100–240 V mains with automatic standby mode to reduce power draw during idle periods. Each KH 80 DSP is pair-matched at the factory, ensuring channel-to-channel consistency without manual calibration.
