The Meinl Sonic Energy Steel Tongue Drum 12" A Akebono delivers the meditative resonance of pentatonic tuning in a 30.48 cm steel body finished in black powder coat. Tuned to A Minor (A3, C4, D4, E4, G4, A4, C5, D5) at A4/a' 440 Hz, this instrument produces harmonically aligned tones that require no musical background to play expressively. The eight precision-cut tongues respond equally well to hand strikes or the included rubber mallet pair, making it accessible across therapeutic, educational, and performance contexts.
Coated steel construction provides sustain and tonal richness across the full two-octave range, whilst magnetic pickup compatibility opens integration with amplification and effects systems. Each tongue has been laser-cut and hand-tuned to ensure accurate intonation throughout the scale, eliminating dissonant intervals inherent to the pentatonic framework. The 12-inch diameter offers a balance between portability and resonant chamber size, with the included padded bag protecting the instrument during transport between sessions or gigs.
