Product Information
The Meinl Sonic Energy Kalimba with Soundhole Pickup is a 17-note thumb piano tuned to C Major, built from high-quality maple with a traditional sound hole that reinforces tonal warmth and sustain. This pre-tuned instrument requires no prior musical experience, all notes complement each other, making it impossible to play a wrong note. The built-in pickup and quarter-inch output jack allow amplification for larger venues, studio recording, or live performance.
Weighing 389g and finished in gloss maple, the kalimba ships with a protective carrying case, linen storage bag, microfibre cloth, and tuning hammer. The 17 steel tines are tuned across the full chromatic range of C Major: d″, b″, g″, e″, c″, a, f, d, c, e, g, b, d″, f″, a″, c″, e″. The soundhole design and maple body create a naturally resonant acoustic foundation, while the onboard pickup captures and routes that signal cleanly without requiring external microphone placement.
Kalimbas excel in sound healing, meditation, and yoga sessions, but also function as expressive compositional tools for bedroom producers and live performers. The pickup model removes venue constraints, amplify into a mixing console, audio interface, or PA system as needed. The harmonious tuning system means exploration yields musicality regardless of approach, making this instrument as useful for therapeutic sound work as for adding organic, ethereal textures to electronic music or recorded compositions.
