The Meinl Sonic Energy 32" Yin & Yang Wind Gong delivers a wide tonal spectrum and long sustain through its almost flat shape, allowing the gong's voice to fully open. Handcrafted in China using traditional methods and a special bronze alloy, this 80 cm diameter gong produces mainly low-pitched tones that dominate when played softly. More powerful strikes cause the gong to open beautifully, generating wave-like overtones that expand the sonic palette considerably.
The special bronze alloy construction ensures rich harmonic content across the full frequency range. Each strike reveals layers of overtones that build and interact, creating complex sonic textures. The flat profile differs from other gong designs by enabling unrestricted resonance, which contributes directly to the extended sustain characteristics. A beater designed specifically for this 32" size ships with the gong, along with a protective cover for storage and transport.
The Yin & Yang designation reflects the philosophical concept of complementary opposites achieving balance and harmony. Lower frequencies emerge first with gentle playing, establishing a foundational tone.
