Product Information
The Martin 5-28 Terz returns the company's smallest body size to production after decades of player requests. Measuring just 21.38 inches in scale length, this ultra-compact 12-fret acoustic is voiced for Terz tuning–a minor third above standard pitch–producing a focused, bell-like tone that cuts through layered arrangements with shimmer and presence. Style 28 appointments include solid East Indian rosewood back and sides, a gloss spruce top with aging toner, antique white binding, and mother-of-pearl fingerboard inlays.
The short scale and Terz tuning deliver a unique harmonic character that adds clarity and texture without overwhelming lower-register instruments. Despite its diminutive dimensions, the 5-28 Terz generates surprising depth and can handle standard tuning when required. The solid rosewood construction provides rich overtones, while the 12-fret neck junction allows the top to vibrate more freely than 14-fret designs. Traditional Style 28 detailing includes forward-shifted scalloped X-bracing and period-correct rosette purfling.
