The LR Baggs M80 is a soundhole–mounted magnetic pickup engineered to capture the full acoustic character of a guitar's body, not just its strings. Unlike conventional pickups that rely solely on string vibration, the M80 employs a patented free–floating humbucking coil functioning as a three–dimensional body sensor. This design philosophy distinguishes LR Baggs' approach: preserving tonal warmth and complexity rather than delivering the thin, inherently electric sound that standard magnetic pickups produce.

The M80's core innovation is a proprietary suspension system that allows the humbucking coil to respond independently along all three axes as the soundboard resonates. This captures body movement across multiple planes, blending a resonant signal with string information for authentically voiced amplification. The pickup operates in both active and passive modes: engage the preamp for high–fidelity tone shaping via built–in EQ, or switch to passive for battery–free operation. Additional controls include adjustable pole pieces for string–to–string balance, onboard volume adjustment, and a battery check indicator.
