Product Information
Tuned one octave lower than standard diatonic harmonicas, the Hohner Rocket Low delivers the throaty, bass-register tones that anchor blues, rock and country ensemble playing. This D–tuned model extends the Rocket family's design language into deep–toned territory, pairing the series' signature rounded comb with cover plates and channel openings engineered specifically for low–frequency projection. Recessed reed plates create a comfortable playing surface across extended sessions, while wide–open covers with side vents maximise airflow and volume when pushing hard through a bass line.
The comb represents a significant departure from traditional harmonica construction: Hohner rounded every edge, corner and side profile to eliminate the sharp contact points common to earlier designs. Reed plates sit recessed into the comb rather than flush–mounted, reducing pressure on the lips during sustained play. Torx screws replace standard Phillips–head fasteners throughout the assembly, improving maintenance access and structural stability when swapping reed plates or adjusting gaps. The included snapcase provides rigid protection in a slimmer profile than conventional hinged cases.
That octave–down tuning creates sonic space beneath melody harmonicas and vocal lines, functioning as a harmonic foundation rather than lead voice. The larger channel openings and cover–plate geometry compensate for the reduced acoustic energy inherent to lower frequencies, generating output levels that hold their own against guitars and drums. Solo players exploring bass harmonica repertoire gain access to a register rarely heard outside specialised instruments, opening up chord voicings and melodic passages that sit well below standard 10–hole range.
