Product Information
Hohner has redesigned its professional bass harmonica range to deliver greater volume, easier handling, and simplified maintenance in low–register ensemble performance. The Bass 78 is the larger of two models, spanning E2 to C5 across a hinged two–part construction that houses octave–tuned reed pairs in each channel. This dual–reed design produces a rich, powerful bottom end that responds quickly enough for group playing, while the lower reed of each pair sits on the inner rows to balance microphone pickup and emphasise bass frequencies. The acrylic comb integrates the mouthpiece directly into its structure, eliminating air leakage and improving response across the instrument's three–octave range.
Construction is fully screw–assembled for straightforward maintenance and adjustment over time. The transparent acrylic comb resists climate changes that can affect wooden designs, maintaining consistent performance in variable temperature and humidity. Brass reed plates measure 2.0 mm in thickness, providing the mass and rigidity needed for stable tuning in the low register. The integrated mouthpiece design ensures airtightness without relying on separate gaskets or compression, delivering immediate response when moving between blow and draw notes during ensemble passages.
