Product Information
Gibson's L-00 12-Fret represents a deliberate return to parlor-guitar engineering. Originally introduced in the early 1930s and favoured for its compact footprint and balanced tonality, the L-00 has cycled between production runs and obscurity. This Century Collection edition reinstates the 12-fret neck-to-body joint—historically rarer than the standard 14-fret configuration—shifting the bridge plate into the soundboard's more resonant centre zone. The result is improved efficiency and responsiveness suited to fingerstyle and lighter attack techniques.
Construction combines a mahogany back and sides with a Sitka spruce top, all bound in single-ply cream. The mahogany neck features Gibson's SlimTaper profile and employs compound dovetail joinery with hot hide glue—traditional methodology consistent across Gibson's acoustic range. The rosewood fingerboard spans 628.7 mm scale length across 19 frets, with mother-of-pearl dot inlays and a period-correct sloped-rectangle rosewood bridge. Hardware includes open-back Golden Age strap tuners with cream buttons, bone nut and saddle, TUSQ® bridge pins, and hand-applied satin nitrocellulose lacquer. Left-handed configuration mirrors all specifications of the right-handed model.
The left-handed orientation addresses players often overlooked by mainstream acoustic offerings. Accompanying the instrument is a premium Century Collection tweed hardshell case, providing adequate protection for travel and storage. Period styling–including the early-1900s Gibson script logo decal and L-00-style pickguard–reinforces authentic vintage character without compromising modern playability or build consistency.
