Product Information
Gibson's J-45 has remained the benchmark flat-top acoustic since 1942, earning its "Workhorse" nickname through relentless studio and stage deployment across genres. This left-handed Century 12-Fret variant reimagines the platform with a 12-fret neck-to-body joint rather than the standard 14-fret configuration, shifting the bridge plate deeper into the body toward the widest section of the soundboard. That geometry allows the top to vibrate more efficiently, yielding a punchy, resonant character that rewards fingerstyle and lighter picking dynamics.
The 628.7 mm scale mahogany body pairs Sitka spruce top with a mahogany SlimTaper neck joined via compound dovetail and hot hide glue–consistent with Gibson's traditional acoustic construction philosophy. Hardware includes open-back Golden Age tuners with cream buttons, a sloped rectangle rosewood bridge echoing early J-45 models, bone nut and saddle, and TUSQ® bridge pins. The 19-fret rosewood fingerboard carries simple mother-of-pearl dot inlays; hand-sprayed satin nitrocellulose lacquer finish and single-ply cream binding complete the aesthetic. A premium tweed hardshell case is included.
The 12-fret configuration remained rare territory until now, historically confined to Gibson Custom and artist collaborations. This Century Collection release democratises access to that distinct tonal profile and playing feel across the entire player base–from bedroom fingerstylists to touring performers seeking vintage-inspired response in a purpose-built instrument.
