Product Information
Gibson's L-00 has been a parlour standard since the early 1930s, prized for its compact footprint and balanced tonality. The Century 12-Fret edition revisits this lineage with a structural shift: moving the neck-to-body joint from 14 frets to 12 frets, a spec historically reserved for pre-war and limited-run instruments. This configuration shortens the effective neck length and repositions the bridge plate into a more resonant zone of the soundboard, yielding warmer articulation and improved response to fingerstyle technique.
Build quality reflects Gibson's acoustic heritage. The body pairs a Sitka spruce top with mahogany back and sides, bound top and back in single-ply cream. The mahogany neck uses a SlimTaper® profile with compound dovetail joinery and hot hide glue–traditional construction throughout. Hardware includes rosewood bridge (sloped-rectangle design), rosewood fingerboard with 19 frets and understated mother-of-pearl dots, bone nut and saddle, open-back Golden Age tuners with cream buttons, and TUSQ® bridge pins. Scale length measures 628.7 mm. Hand-applied satin nitrocellulose lacquer finish in Vintage Sunburst completes the aesthetic.
The 12-fret configuration offers particular appeal to players favouring lighter attack and nuanced dynamics, where the improved soundboard efficiency becomes audible. Since Gibson historically produced 12-fret L-00s only in pre-war runs or small batches, availability has been limited; this Century Collection release makes the spec a permanent standard offering. The included premium tweed hardshell case and availability in both right- and left-handed configurations add practical value for touring and studio applications alike.
