Product Information
Gibson's L-00 has been a parlour staple since the early 1930s, prized for its compact feel and articulate voice across fingerstyle and lighter-attack playing styles. The L-00 Century 12-Fret represents a deliberate departure from the standard 14-fret configuration: moving the neck-to-body joint back to 12 frets shifts the bridge plate into a more resonant zone of the soundboard, yielding a warmer, more responsive character. This layout was common on pre-war flat-tops but has remained scarce as a standard offering–until now.
Construction centres on a mahogany body with Sitka spruce top, single-ply cream binding on top and back, and a mahogany SlimTaper® neck featuring a compound dovetail joint secured with hot hide glue. The rosewood fingerboard carries 19 frets with understated mother-of-pearl dot inlays. Hardware includes open-back Golden Age strap tuners with cream buttons, a bone nut and saddle, TUSQ® bridge pins, and a sloped-rectangle closed-slot rosewood bridge. Scale length measures 628.7 mm. A hand-applied satin nitrocellulose lacquer finish and period-inspired headstock script complete the aesthetic. Included hardshell case suits both right- and left-handed orientations.
The 12-fret neck profile delivers measurably improved playing comfort for players who favour the instrument in a traditional parlour setting or value the tonal efficiency of a shorter neck geometry. Resonance response favours fingerstyle techniques and articulate note separation–characteristics that distinguish parlour acoustics from their larger counterparts and justify the historical preference among recording musicians and home-studio players.
