Product Information
Genelec's 8351B represents a significant evolution in three–way monitor design, combining a die–cast aluminium enclosure with Minimum Diffraction Coaxial (MDC™) driver technology to deliver uncoloured imaging across 38 Hz to 20 kHz (±1.5 dB). Built on decades of professional studio experience, these monitors employ Smart Active Monitoring (SAM™) and GLM™ calibration to automatically adapt to your room's acoustic environment, addressing one of modern production's persistent challenges: achieving reliable mixes in untreated or confined spaces.
The 8351B pairs dual 218 × 101 mm obround woofer cones with a 130 mm coaxial midrange driver and 25 mm metal dome tweeter, achieving peak SPL output of 118 dB and long–term SPL of 103 dB at 1 metre. Self–generated noise stays below 5 dB SPL, whilst harmonic distortion remains ≤0.5% above 100 Hz. XLR analogue and dual CAT5 GLM network connectors enable flexible system building; the monitors weigh 14.3 kg each and measure 433 mm tall. Genelec's AutoCal™ 2 algorithm corrects for level, delay and room response anomalies through the proprietary GLM software, storing all settings directly in each unit for seamless portability between sessions and locations.
These monitors suit mixing engineers, mastering professionals and producers working in less–than–ideal acoustic environments—basements, project studios, treated bedrooms and professional facilities alike. The elevated SPL ceiling (103 dB sustained) supports longer, more critical listening sessions without fatigue, whilst the extended bass response and precise stereo imaging make them particularly valuable for those checking mixes across multiple playback systems. Sound On Sound's Highly Commended award and MusicTech's Gear of the Year 2017 accolade reflect their proven performance in demanding professional and semi–professional workflows.
