The DW 5000 Series Double Bass Drum Pedal represents Drum Workshop's flagship approach to kick drum articulation. Built on decades of innovation, the 5002 model combines precision engineering with tactile responsiveness, making it equally at home in a bedroom studio or touring rig. The standout innovation is the Tri-Pivot Toe Clamp, which uses three independent, 360-degree rotating rubber pads to grip bass drum hoops of varying diameter and thickness from both top and bottom, eliminating slippage entirely.
The 5002's mechanical architecture centres on the Dual-Chain Accelerator Drive system, which employs eccentric sprocket motion to shorten footboard stroke whilst increasing velocity and sensitivity. A Dual-Bearing Spring Rocker augments the responsiveness and smoothness established in earlier iterations. The pedal features a Delta Ball-Bearing Hinge and aluminium hex shafts, pedal plates, and linkages throughout. Critically, the Single Post Casting design allows the auxiliary pedal to sit closer to the hi-hat, enabling faster foot transitions or simultaneous pedal operation–a genuine advantage for double bass techniques demanding spatial efficiency.
The textured rubber base plate works in concert with the Tri-Pivot clamp to anchor the mechanism without micro-movements. Extended and heelless footboard options accommodate different playing styles and footwork preferences. The Two-Way Beater system provides flexibility in beater orientation and weight balance, whilst left-footed configuration is available for southpaw drummers. These refinements make the 5002 a considered piece of engineering rather than a generic utility pedal.
