Product Information
This pickup launched the high–output movement in the early 1970s, creating an entirely new product category when replacement pickups didn't exist. The DiMarzio DP100 Super Distortion F–Spaced Humbucker was specifically engineered to drive tube amplifiers into full overdrive, delivering a thick wall of sound with boosted mids, substantial low end, and fat high frequencies. Five decades of platinum records from players like Ace Frehley, Al Di Meola, Phil Collen, Tom Scholz, and Paul Gilbert have captured this exact tonal signature. The red bobbin finish with nickel pole pieces gives this bridge–position humbucker a classic visual presence.
The F–spaced pole piece configuration accommodates guitars with wider string spacing, ensuring proper string alignment under the pickup's magnetic field. Four–conductor wiring provides access to coil–split and series–parallel modes, expanding the tonal range from high–gain humbucker to single–coil clarity. Both single–note lines and full chord voicings project with equal authority, filling the room with consistent output across the frequency spectrum. The balanced EQ profile handles everything from rhythm work to lead passages without requiring excessive amplifier gain or external boosting.
Installation suits any humbucker–routed guitar with tremolo bridge systems where wider string spacing is present. The combination of power and tonal balance makes this pickup effective across rock, metal, and fusion applications where articulation matters as much as output level. Original three–conductor versions carried the Dual Sound name, but the four–conductor design became the standard configuration for maximum wiring flexibility.
