Product Information
AlphaTheta's Chordcat is a purpose-built groovebox that centralises chord creation within its workflow, departing from the synthesis–first approach of competing units. The device generates up to 110,000 musically compatible chord combinations via its Chord Cruiser algorithm, which auditions suggestions in real time and maps them to the keyboard. Measuring 247 × 111 × 33 mm and weighing just 0.4 kg, the flat, knob–free design prioritises portability without sacrificing sequencing depth or sound variety.
The hardware spans 8 independent tracks, 16 saveable patterns, and 128 steps arranged across an 8–bar grid, enabling precise arrangement work. Three built–in effects—arpeggiator, delay, and ducker—respond to an XY pad for real–time manipulation, whilst the Running Direction feature cycles playback through four orientations (right, down, clockwise, counterclockwise) to unlock unforeseen rhythmic variations. The 145 sound presets and 16 drum kits ship ready–tuned for multiple genres; low–pass filtering and amp envelope parameters automate per–pattern, enabling dynamic tonal shifts throughout arrangements. USB Type–C connectivity supports MIDI I/O with external gear and DAWs, and the bundled Chordcat Manager software and Ableton Live Lite licence streamline pattern exchange between hardware and computer.
Battery operation runs approximately 5 hours via six AA alkaline cells, with USB bus power (DC 5V, 500 mA) available for studio and extended sessions. Key and scale locking constrains all chord suggestions and keyboard notes to the selected harmonic framework, with LED indicators confirming compatibility—a practical safeguard for tracking harmonic coherence across longer compositions without constant mental reference.
