The Allen & Heath CAT5 50m TourCat is a Van Damme Cat 5E flexible cable engineered for Ethernet-based digital audio and video transmission in live production environments. Unlike standard rigid data cables, this stranded construction delivers the handling characteristics of professional microphone cable while maintaining full Category 5E TIA/EIA-568-C-2 compliance. The 7 x 0.16 mm oxygen-free copper conductors provide Gigabit and 100 Mbit data throughput to a maximum recommended channel distance of 53 metres, making this 50-metre length ready for immediate deployment.
Aluminium/polyester foil screening offers greater than 100% coverage with a dedicated 7 x 0.16 mm tinned copper drain wire, maintaining 100 ± 10 Ω impedance across the 250–500 MHz range. The 6.00 mm overall diameter and flexible PVC jacket allow a tight 10x bend radius, critical for repeated coiling and stage routing. Low-density polyethylene insulation around each conductor ensures 68% velocity of propagation with attenuation held to 33.0 dB per 100 metres at 100 MHz. Conductor resistance stays below 166 Ohm/km across the full length.
The jet black RAL 9005 jacket resists stage wear while the stranded construction withstands constant setup and breakdown cycles that destroy brittle solid-core alternatives. Direct compatibility with Neutrik Ethercon connectors simplifies termination for broadcast, lighting control, and networked audio protocols including Dante, AVB, and AES67. This cable meets the mechanical demands of touring without sacrificing electrical performance, bridging the gap between IT infrastructure and professional audio requirements.
