Rickenbacker
One of the seminal brands in electric guitar history, Rickenbacker built instruments that helped define the sound of modern popular music. Founded in Santa Ana, California in 1931, they continue to produce their classic models today.
Responsible for the first production, full-scale electrified guitar in 1935 and then later the first solid body electric guitar, Rickenbacker has a reputation for innovation. In 1956 they began to manufacture guitars with the modern variation of a neck-through construction; one of the first companies to use this practice, which is still commonplace today.
Rickenbacker received a tremendous boost in the 1960's when they became synonymous with The Beatles. Both John Lennon and George Harrison played Rickenbacker guitars and due to the band's prominence on television the instruments received plenty of publicity. As a result, many other prominent groups of the time started using Rickenbacker instruments. However their popularity began to wane somewhat by the late 60's. This didn't last long though and they experienced a resurgence roughly a decade later when artists like Tom Petty put them back in the public eye. The guitars especially, went on to also become associated with New Wave music, through guitarists like Johnny Marr.
Today Rickenbacker are as popular and sought after as ever and at Mannys we're proud to be able to carry this iconic brand.
