A 12 String Acoustic Guitar contains double the amount of strings as the standard 6 string guitar. The strings are laid out in 6 courses, all with 2 strings per course. This results in a sound that is fuller and more harmonically resonant than its 6 string brother.

Due to the added tension created by adding so many strings, 12-string Acoustic Guitars are reinforced both in the neck and body. These guitars create what has been described as a chorus effect as the double strings vibrate out of phase offering an incredible soundscape for its audience.
