Sennheiser

Sennheiser was founded in Germany, in 1945, in the wake of World War II. The eight founders were all engineers from the University of Hannover, the most notable among them being Professor Fritz Sennheiser. The company soon began producing microphones, with the DM1 in 1946, and the DM2 in 1947.

In the years of the Cold War, there was a great demand for 'bare' microphones, those with only the most fundamental components, that could be hidden in everyday objects. Sennheiser microphones such as the MM26 were used by agents on both sides of the Iron Curtain to surveil their adversaries. The most advanced example was probably the MM61, which was disguised as a fountain pen.

The company's greatest influence on history actually came in 1968, when it released the world's first open headphones, the HD414. The natural sound stage was what users had been looking for, and the entire market shifted in response to the innovation. This legacy of game-changing excellence can today be found the brand's headphones for audiophiles: the HD650, DJs: the HD25, and broadcasters: the HD26.
