French company Arturia was founded in Grenoble in 1999 by engineers Frédéric Brun and Gilles Pommereuil with the intent to create affordable software synthesisers. Analogue modelling algorithms at the time were known for generating unwanted digital artefacts, so the pair developed a new code base that would eliminate these issues.
The company's first breakthrough product was the Modular V softsynth, developed in collaboration with Robert Moog in 2003, which would lay the foundations for what is now the V Collection bundle. To keep pace with their trailblazing algorithms, Arturia began building hardware controllers with tight software integration to bridge the gap between emulation and analogue.
These controllers are now exemplified by the excellent KeyLab and Key/BeatStep ranges, but it's the company's hardware synthesisers that have become their new frontier of sonic exploration. 2012's MiniBrute redefined what a compact analogue synth could be, while the MatrixBrute and PolyBrute are flagship units that have cemented Arturia as one of the most ambitious manufacturers in the industry.
