Product Information

Please note: this unit requires a Thunderbolt cable; one is not provided with the unit.

A new member of MOTU's professional audio interface range, the 24Ai includes 24 analogue inputs and three 8-channel ADAT optical banks for a total of 72 audio inputs. Using AVB Ethernet connection via Cat5e or Cat6 cable, the 24Ai can be configured to network with multiple units including the matching MOTU 24Ao output unit to provide even more versatility in your recording setup. In addition, utilising MOTU's CueMix DSP functionality provides the flexibility to route audio, and mix up to 48 channels of audio simultaneously.

Transferring the layout of a large console format onto the computer screen, allows up to 48 inputs of audio to be mixed with the options of three audio group and seven stereo aux busses. To get the best results, take advantage of the 4- band parametric classic EQ on each channel, classic reverb and FX, the vintage style compression and LA-2A style levelling amplifier over the mix bus.

The software used to control the 24 Ai does not resides on an external computer hard drive, but in the unit itself. It is a web app that uses the 24Ai as the server, and can be transmitted to tablets, smart phones, laptops and computers all running on the same local network. Connect a wi-fi router or Apple Airport device with a standard Ethernet cable to the 24Ai and then sync the device to enable wireless, real time mixing. The program opens up in a web browser on the device and provides full control to mixing, DSP,audio routing, networking and device settings from the the wireless device. Equally applicable to both live and studio applications.

The 24Ai provides cross-platform compatibility with Mac OS X (10.8 or higher), Windows (7/8 or 10) and all of your favourite audio software and host-based effects via WDM/ASIO/Core Audio drivers. Or you can use the included AudioDesk workstation software for Mac OS, with 24-bit recording/editing and 32-bit mixing/processing/mastering.

The inclusion of the IEEE developed AVB Ethernet network port allows for connecting multiple MOTU devices to expand existing systems or create the ideal MOTU system. Using a Cat5e or Cat6 cable, a MOTU 24Ao can be added to provide an equivalent number of outputs. Both the MOTU 1248 and MOTU 8M units can provide dedicated mic pre-amps whilst the MOTU 16A offers a further sixteen analogue inputs.

To make networking and system expansion easy, MOTU have included several presets in the software. Simply scroll through the preset options and select the one that matches the configuration of units in the system. From this point, it is just a matter of customising the routing and mixer settings to suit the specific requirements of the set up.
